Vaccine Creator Dr. William Halford Passed Away Due to Cancer

Southern Illinois University says Dr. William Halford passed away due to cancer. He had spent years creating a vaccine for the herpes simplex virus, after the issue caught his interest in the early 2000s.

This bad news also has been confirmed by his colleague Ed Gershburg on the Herpes Vaccine Research site

Who is Dr. William Halford?

William Halford is an Associate Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at Southern Illinois University School of Medicine in Springfield, Illinois.  He has studied herpes simplex virus (HSV) biology since 1991, and he became interested in trying to develop a safe and effective HSV-2 vaccine in 2006.

Although Dr. William Halford has passed away,  his research team will continue working on the project to let the vaccine to become a standard of care.
